Guitar Etude In C - Scale Exercise

A little etude in C Major for today's guitar lick. Just a fun way to explore the scale over the fretboard for students who are just beginning to extend this scale away from the basic patterns and practice shape. I start slower in the first part and increase the tempo slightly into the 16th note section if you are following along with the tab please keep this in mind.

C# Minor Pentatonic Guitar Lick with Wah

A pretty basic but cool sounding ( I think)  wah guitar lick using the C# Minor Pentatonic scale.
The progression in this example is C#Minor to E5 to F#5. The wah lick begins when the E5 chord is played in the progression. Drums courtesy of Sonoma WireWorks Riffworks Instant Drummer.

Another Alternate Picking Guitar Lick / Exercise

An alternate picking guitar lick in 3/4 time that swithces between the B and G strings. All the notes on the B string are struck with a downstroke and then alternate pick in a 16th note ryhthm after that. I like the sound
of the B string ringing out so try to accent the downstrokes on the B string and play lighter on the G.

Guitar Lick over Chord Progression in A #2

This is another guitar lick is over the progression we looked at last time. It is based on the
notes of the C Major/ A Minor scale which are the natural notes on the guitar meaning no sharps or flats. I based the starting part off the root of the first chord A and let inspiration take it from there. To play along with the video follow the tab and remember to tune down a half step.
This example is a bit more complex than the last one. It incorporates lots of legato playing using hammer and pulls and slides.I wanted to keep the phrasing a close to the written tab and notation as possible but it is a little stiff so I would recommend given the rhythm a more relaxed feel and let the notes breath a bit.

Finger picked Guitar Progression

This progression starts with a triad shape of an a major chord. It is fingerpicked
and uses alternating bass notes over the basic triad shape. In the last bar there
is a barre over the seventh fret.Let the notes ring together and aim for an even flowing rhythm.
In the next few guitar licks posted we will look at some guitar licks I would play over this progression.

Tapping Guitar Lick with Wah

A tapping guitar lick with wah pedal. Entirely on the B string. A basic tapping example - mainly because I don't tap a lot. I thought this was kind of cool though almost Celtic sounding to my ears. Group in sextuplets with the exception of the end which is grouped in eighths.

Pull Off Guitar Lick

A repeating guitar lick based on pull offs. To my ears this is centered around the key of A. Once you get it under your fingers try playing it over a moving chord progression and see how it sounds while the lick stays static.
